Less Fear. Better Care.

My goal is to make medical care less scary for children through compassion, research, and new technology.

Hospital Care Interaction

About Me

My name is Ananya Pitta

Ananya here, a senior at South Fayette High School in Pennsylvania and an aspiring physician passionate about patient-centered care.

My interest in healthcare comes from both personal experience and what I have seen while volunteering in hospitals. As a child, I remember being nervous about medical procedures. Later, as a hospital volunteer, I saw many children experiencing the same fear.

I began asking a simple question: How can we make medical care less frightening for children?

Today, I am exploring that question through hospital volunteering, medical shadowing, virtual reality research, nanotechnology research, and community service.

I have completed more than 100 hours of hospital and community volunteering and have shadowed professionals across cardiology, anesthesia, pharmacy, OB/GYN, radiology, and surgery. I have also conducted research involving virtual reality in pediatric care and nanotechnology in medicine.

My long-term goal is to become a physician who combines science, technology, and compassionate care to improve the patient experience.

My Mission

Making Healthcare Less Scary for Kids

My mission is to help reduce fear, pain, and anxiety during medical care.

I am exploring simple ways to comfort children as well as new tools like virtual reality and nanotechnology.

LEADERSHIP

Teen Advisory Board

South Fayette Township Library

As a member of the Teen Advisory Board, I collaborate with other students to develop monthly “Unseen Bags” and help organize after-hours library programs.

I contribute ideas and student perspectives that help shape programs designed for young people in our community.

Little Hearts Foundation Research Cohort

Collaborating on a research paper focused on mental health, neurodevelopment, trauma, and Adverse Childhood Experiences.

Together, these research experiences allow me to explore pediatric care from multiple perspectives—physical pain, emotional stress, treatment technology, and long-term wellbeing.

Nanotechnology in Cardiovascular Surgery

Research with Prof.Kristina Lilova, University of Arizona

Authoring a 4,000+ word research paper examining how nanotechnology could help reduce surgical-site infections and improve tissue repair in cardiovascular surgery.

The manuscript is being prepared for submission to the International Journal of High School Research.

This research expanded my interest in how technologies such as nano-therapeutics may eventually make treatment more targeted and reduce the burden of medical care.

1

Virtual Reality & Pediatric Care

Investigating the factors that influence the successful adoption of virtual reality to reduce pain and anxiety during pediatric medical procedures.

The project explores how immersive technology could become a practical, non-drug approach to helping children feel calmer during medical care.

The manuscript is being prepared for submission to the Youth Medical Journal.
